AEA Initiatives for Diversity and Inclusion

The American Economic Association has established an annual AEA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Diversity and Inclusion to recognize departments and organizations that demonstrate outstanding achievement in diversity and inclusion practices.

A one-time award open to US-based economics departments in an amount up to $5,000 to help establish a new "bridge program" or training program for groups that are traditionally underrepresented in the field of economics.

Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, the American Economic Association and its Committee on the Status of Minority Groups in the Economics Profession (CSMGEP) have established the annual Andrew Brimmer Undergraduate Essay Prize.

The goal of these grants is to advance the career and professional development of junior faculty from groups that are traditionally underrepresented by defraying the cost of meals, travel, lodging, and conference registration to attend the annual ASSA meetings.

This breakfast is intended to support economists who have faced barriers to entry or advancement, including those with limited access to mentorship or institutional resources. The event features esteemed special guests each year.
