Call for Sessions and Papers for the 2025 AEA Annual Meeting. Members wishing to give papers or organize complete sessions for the AEA program at the 2025 ASSA Meeting in San Francisco are invited to submit proposals electronically to AEA President-elect Lawrence Katz beginning March 1. While papers covering a wide array of topics in economics will be included on the program, Professor Katz especially encourages proposals on research related to the determinants of economic inequality, opportunity, and mobility and the roles of supply, demand, institutional, and policy factors.
A new opportunity to be on the AEA program will be available at the 2025 annual meeting! Lightning Round sessions, where participants will have approximately seven minutes to present their paper and three minutes for questions, will be held throughout the conference in regular session time slots. The AEA encourages graduate students and early career economists to submit individual papers through the standard portal, and to check the box agreeing to also be considered for a lightning round presentation.
The deadline for submissions is April 1 for individual papers and April 15 for complete sessions. The submission portal will open on March 1 at https://www.aeaweb.org/conference/submissions.
Poster Presentations at the 2025 ASSA Meeting. Posters are an integral part of the AEA program. We are planning another poster session for 2025 in which accepted posters will remain on display throughout the conference. Posters will be selected from individual papers submitted through the portal for which the presenter has agreed to be considered for a poster. Posters should be self-explanatory so they can be read without the author present. The AEA will offer assistance in arranging for the printing of posters. EconHarmony helps prospective individual paper submitters for the AEA Annual Meeting find others with similar interests who might join them to form a complete session submission and provides an opportunity to volunteer as a session chair. Thirty-three percent of submitted complete sessions and 13 percent of submitted individual papers appeared in sessions on the 2024 AEA Annual Meeting program. The Committee on Economic Statistics (AEAStat) will sponsor three sessions on economic measurement at the 2025 ASSA Meeting. The committee solicits both individual papers and proposals for sessions of three or four papers, with preference given to full session proposals. The committee is interested in receiving submissions in any area of economic data and statistics. One of the three sessions will be published in the AEA Papers and Proceedings. The AEA Committee on Economic Education (AEA-CEE) will sponsor a poster session at the 2025 ASSA Meeting devoted to active learning strategies across the economics curriculum. Instead of papers, session presenters will prepare large visual poster summaries of their work, which will be mounted in an exhibition room to allow presenters to talk directly with session participants. Although the committee encourages presenters to include evidence that their strategy enhances learning, it does not require quantifiable evidence. Presenters should emphasize the originality of their strategy and provide sufficient information so that session participants may apply the technique in their own classrooms. Proposals should describe the teaching strategy and explain how it will be displayed on the poster. Posters marketing textbooks, commercial software, or similar materials will not be considered for the session. Proposals are limited to two pages and are due by April 30. The AEA wants your input for future ASSA Meetings! If you have attended an ASSA meeting in the last six years, you should have received a short survey requesting feedback. In this post-COVID time, the structure of the meeting needs to evolve to better serve the participating associations and their attendees. The AEA is taking the time now to gather feedback and to consider what changes, new activities, and engaging opportunities it could plan for future meetings to draw economists from all academic levels, fields, and organizations. Check your email or watch for reminders to complete the survey.

Share these valuable videos with your colleagues and students to gain insights from well-known professors in their fields. Did you hear? The AEA has expanded its Ombuds program! The program features an independent team of professionals, managed by an experienced outsourced provider of Ombuds services (https://www.mwi.org/aea-ombuds) with a range of experiences and specialties. Another service of the Ombuds program is the Reporting Lockbox, provided by MWI, apart and separate from the Ombuds team. The Lockbox enables AEA members who are not yet ready to file a formal complaint to log circumstances or conduct by other members that may violate the AEA’s policy against harassment, discrimination, and retaliation. If you previously reported an incident to the former Ombuds, Leto Copeley, the information was NOT transferred to the current Reporting Lockbox; therefore, to create a permanent record of the incident, we encourage you to log the incident again to the current Reporting Lockbox. The AEA does not have access to the Reporting Lockbox, and therefore, will not know the identities of members or persons of interest unless action is taken by members through the filing of a formal complaint to the AEA. Don’t miss the upcoming workshop: “Interactive Listening Skills.” The workshop, scheduled for February 15 from noon to 1:00 p.m. EST via Zoom, will be led by the Ombuds team at MWI. This workshop will help members build awareness around their listening skills, provide an effective framework for interactive listening, and apply it in a low-risk learning environment. The 13th annual AEA Conference on Teaching and Research in Economic Education (CTREE) will be held on May 29-31, 2024, at the Loews Atlanta Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia. The conference is hosted by the AEA Committee on Economic Education (AEA-CEE) in conjunction with the Journal of Economic Education. Plenary talks will be given by Peter Arcidiacono (Duke University), Sarah Turner (University of Virginia), and a representative of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. A preliminary program, registration, and housing information for the conference will be available on February 15 on the CTREE webpage.
Expanding Diversity in Undergraduate Classes with Advancements in (the) Teaching (of) Economics (EDUCATE) Workshop. The AEA-CEE is pleased to announce that the annual EDUCATE workshop will be held in conjunction with the 2024 CTREE in Atlanta, Georgia. The workshop will be in-person with supporting structures and materials facilitated through Canvas beginning Friday, May 31, 2024, and concluding on Sunday, June 2, 2024. The Committee on the Status of LGBTQ+ Individuals in the Economics Profession (CSQIEP) invites you to its virtual seminar series on the Economics of LGBTQ+ Individuals. CSQIEP is also pleased to announce its Second Mentoring Conference for LGBTQ+ Economics PhD students in San Diego, California, on August 5-7, 2024. This conference is targeted at LGBTQ+ economics PhD students in their job market year and the year prior. CSQIEP has already asked economics PhD students and senior economist mentors for expressions of potential interest in attending the conference. The Committee on the Status of Minority Groups in the Economics Profession (CSMGEP) is requesting proposals for the next AEA Summer Program host. Preliminary proposals are due August 1. Call for Artists. The program brochure cover for the ASSA Annual Meeting often features artwork by economists or their spouses. Please contact us if you would like to see your artwork on a cover or have suggestions for future covers. Artwork can be provided in any medium that can be photographed. If selected, a color transparency, slide, or photograph (color or black and white) will be required. There is no remuneration, just the honor of having your work recognized.
