The Annual Meeting of the American Economic Association will be held as a virtual event due to the continued uncertainties related to COVID-19. There will be no in-person meeting. The live event will take place on January 7 - 9, 2022. This was a heartbreaking decision for the Executive Committee but uncertainties about the spread of the variant, even among the fully vaccinated, the challenges of social distancing at events of this size, continued restrictions on foreign travel, and the risks of discretionary air travel made this course inevitable.

Registration opens on September 15, 2021. To complete your registration, you will be required to acknowledge and accept the AEA Code of Professional Conduct and the AEA Policy on Harassment and Discrimination.

The AEA's 2022 Continuing Education Program will be held as a virtual event on January 10-11, 2022.  Participants can choose from three concurrent programs. Registration opens on September 15, 2021. Topics include DSGE Modeling in Macroeconomics led by Larry Christiano and Martin Eichenbaum, both of Northwestern University; Modern Sampling Methods: Design and Inference led by Keisuke Hirano of Pennsylvania State University and Jack Porter of University of Wisconsin-Madison; and Quantitative Approaches to Economic History led by Ran Abramitzky of Stanford University and Leah Platt Boustan of Princeton University. Job Market Interviews have always been a central part of the ASSA Annual Meeting, but will occur online once again for 2022. We hope that you will continue to take advantage of the JOE Network for your candidate profiles, job listings, and letter writing, as well as the application module that includes a tool for scheduling interviews. The AEA will continue to provide Signaling and the Job Market Scramble. The Ad Hoc Committee on the Job Market offers guidance and periodic updates on conditions in the job market.

2021-22 Minority Job Market Candidates. The Committee on the Status of Minority Groups in the Economics Profession (CSMGEP) maintains a web page listing of 2021-22 minority job market candidates as a resource for employers. If you identify as American Indian, Alaskan Native, Black (not of Hispanic origin), Hispanic (including persons of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, and Central or South American origin), or Pacific Islander and would like to be added to this list, please email Gary A. AEA Initiatives for Diversity and Inclusion. Now is the time to apply for the many initiatives launched by the AEA to further the goal of promoting diversity and inclusion in the economics profession. Grants, awards, and other opportunities are available to individuals and departments that take steps to join in this effort, including the new Professional Development Grant for URM economists. The AEA Mentoring Program currently seeks nominations for the 2021 Impactful Mentor Award. This Award was inaugurated in 2018 to recognize and celebrate the excellence of mentors who promote diversity, access, and inclusion in the economics profession. While the nominee need not be someone officially affiliated with the AEA Mentoring Program or CSMGEP, he/she/they must be someone who has made a significant impact on the lives of individuals from traditionally underrepresented minority groups in the profession.  Nominations are due by September 30, 2021.  Please share this announcement with your networks and submit your nomination here.

The Committee on the Status of Women in the Economics Profession (CSWEP) seeks nominations for its Carolyn Shaw Bell Award by September 15, 2021. AEA's Committee on the Status of LGBTQ+ Individuals in the Economics Profession (CSQIEP) is pleased to announce several new initiatives. First, the Committee has created an annual Award for Most Outstanding Research Paper on LGBTQ+ Economics. Nominations are open until November 1, 2021. Second, the Committee is pleased to announce its first annual Pink Papers session for economics research presented by LGBTQ+ identified economists. This year this session will feature research in economic history and development economics; next year’s call for papers will rotate to different fields. These new initiatives complement the Committee’s mentoring program, weekly virtual seminar series on LGBTQ+ economics, newsletter, and social events. The AEA Summer Training Program & Scholarship Program promotes diversity by preparing talented undergraduates for doctoral programs in economics and related disciplines. Hosted at Howard University, students receive eight weeks of intensive training in microeconomics, mathematics, econometrics, and research methods from prominent faculty and economists at the Federal Reserve Board. Students have the opportunity to earn up to twelve college credits, participate in experiential learning, and join inclusive mentoring groups. The Annual AEA Officer Elections are still open for voting. If you have not voted and wish to participate, watch your postal mail for a paper ballot or your email for an electronic ballot, and return it before October 1, 2021.

The Eleventh Annual AEA Conference on Teaching and Research in Economic Education (CTREE) will be held on June 1 - 3, 2022 at the Palmer House Hilton in Chicago, IL. The conference is hosted by the AEA Committee on Economic Education in conjunction with the Journal of Economic Education. Plenary talks will be given by Lisa Cook of Michigan State University and Nancy Rose of MIT.  Submissions will be accepted via the AEA online submission system. Submissions may be of individual papers, complete sessions of three or four papers, workshops, or panels. Submissions of completed sessions are especially encouraged. The submission portal is now open. The deadline is December 1, 2021. Expanding Diversity in Undergraduate Classes with Advancements in (the) Teaching (of) Economics (EDUCATE) Workshop. The American Economic Association Outreach Task Force and the Committee on Economic Education are pleased to announce the EDUCATE workshop will be held in conjunction with the AEA 2022 Conference on Teaching and Research in Economic Education (CTREE) in Chicago, IL. The workshop will be conducted both in-person and via Canvas beginning Friday, June 3, 2022 and concluding on Sunday, June 5, 2022. See EDUCATE Workshop details. Applications for the 2022 workshop will open in January 2022.

AEA's Best Practices for Economists: Building a More Diverse, Inclusive, and Productive Profession at https://www.aeaweb.org/resources/best-practices offers guidelines for professional activity in four areas: conducting research, serving as colleagues, working with students, and leading departments and workplaces.
