Chief Economist

American Property Casualty Insurance Association (APCIA) is seeking a Chief Economist for our research department. APCIA represents nearly 60% of the primary and reinsurance property-casualty insurance marketplace. Preferably the applicants would be willing to work in either APCIA’s DC or Chicago office on a range of cutting-edge insurance issues with the help of the top domestic and global insurance companies.

The incumbent will work with the research team and member companies to analyze and communicate trends impacting the property-casualty insurance industry. Identify emerging economic public policy issues that will impact the property-casualty industry. Design and articulate original data-driven economic studies and arguments supporting APCIA’s policy, advocacy, legal, and public affairs efforts. The position requires someone with a strong interest and background in empirical research applicable to public policy issues; a strong academic foundation in economics, statistics, financial analysis, and/or mathematics; the ability to explain technical research results to non-technical audiences; and the ability to effectively interact with a diverse team of people and be team-oriented and results-driven.
