Description of the Luohan Academy:
The Luohan Academy, an open research platform initiated by the Alibaba Group, was founded in Hangzhou in June 2018. It is dedicated to the research of revolutions in social and economic patterns accompanied by technological innovations. It
complements Alibaba Group's DAMO Academy, a global research program established in October 2017 focusing on developing cutting-edge technologies. Digital technologies are fundamentally changing markets and economies with the potential to improve mankind's prospects in many ways. The Luohan Academy will focus on examining the implications that technologies will bring to the societies in the future. The academic committee of the Luohan Academy consists of 15 members, mainly economists, including 6 Nobel Memorial Prize of Economics Laureates: Bengt Holmström, Lars Peter Hansen, Alvin E. Roth, Christopher A. Pissarides, Michael Spence, Thomas Sargent, Patrick Bolton, Markus Brunnermeier, Preston McAfee, Yingyi Qian, Steve Tadelis, Neng Wang, Shangjin Wei, Wei Xiong, Chenggang Xu.
