We invite applications for the John Garlick Chair in Business Science, to be filled in the discipline of Marketing. This full-time permanent appointment will be made at the level of full Professor in the Marketing Section of the School of Management Studies.
Marketing at UCT has experienced significant increases in demand for Master's and Doctoral studies and is therefore searching for a senior academic with experience in supervision, and who can provide strategic leadership and guidance in the discipline.
The Marketing Section is affiliated with the well-known Unilever Institute for Strategic Marketing (www.unileverinstitute.co.za), South Africa's preeminent independent consumer research centre. The successful candidate should expect to play a role in helping to ensure the continued success of the institute.
Founded in 1829, UCT has a proud tradition of academic excellence and effecting social change and development through its pioneering scholarship, faculty and students. UCT remains the highest-ranked African university in both the Times Higher Education World University Rankings (2013: 126) and the Shanghai Jiao Tong Academic Ranking of World Universities (2012: 154). It is also renowned for its striking beauty, with its campus located at the foot of Table Mountain with panoramic views of Cape Town.
The appointment is to be taken up as soon as practically possible, with allowance made for time required for relocation in the event that an international candidate is appointed.
We expect candidates to be able to:
-- Provide academic leadership in the discipline of Marketing;
-- Supervise research in Marketing at the Masters and Doctoral levels;
-- Lead substantial research projects in Marketing and maintain a distinguished record of scholarly publication; and
-- Teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
The School offers:
* A world-class and fully resourced teaching environment;
* Teaching loads and an institutional climate which support research activities;
* Access to research funds;
* Opportunities for global academic collaboration.
Requirements:
-- A PhD and a distinguished record of publication in the field of Marketing;
-- A commitment to innovative teaching;
Remuneration:
UCT offers globally competitive remuneration. International candidates seeking detailed information should contact Prof Anton Schlechter (anton.schlechter@uct.ac.za) for details of the basic salary, additional benefits, cost of living in South Africa and any other pertinent topics. The John Garlick Chair includes a stipend over and above UCT's standard Professor package. The full cost of relocation for foreign based appointees will be borne by UCT.
