Associate Professor/Professor and Director of the Public Policy Center. The College of Social Sciences, University of Hawaii at Manoa, invites applications for a full-time faculty position to serve as Director of the College's Public Policy Center. The successful candidate will be appointed as Associate Professor or Professor of Public Policy, with an administrative appointment as Director of the Public Policy Center (position #83574). The Directorship is a full time, three-year appointment, renewable based on satisfactory performance, 11-month appointment, permanent, general funds, tenure track, to begin August 1, 2014, contingent on position clearance and availability of funds. Should candidate no longer serve as Director, revert to Associate Professor or Professor of Public Policy, 9-month appointment.
Duties: As Director of the Public Policy Center, responsibilities include working with the College of Social Sciences Dean and faculty to design and implement a new curriculum for an M.A. in Public Policy and to recruit faculty across a number of disciplines; recruit and admit M.A. students; engage in outreach and fundraising activities; organize events; and conduct other administrative duties. The College expects that the new M.A. degree will have a strong international focus, with special emphasis on development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of public policies.
As a faculty member in the Public Policy Center, responsibilities include teaching courses in public policy; advising and mentoring students; conducting and publishing research on public policy; seeking extramural funding; and participating in department, university, community, and professional service activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate Professor: Ph.D. in relevant social science or a terminal degree in a closely allied field from an accredited college, university or foreign equivalent; minimum four (4) years of full time college or university teaching at the rank of assistant professor or equivalent; evidence of scholarly achievement comparable to peers at major research universities; excellent record of research on public policy related topics; strong performance in teaching and mentoring students; and a demonstrated commitment to engage with both academic and policy communities.
For Full Professor: In addition to the requirements for Associate Professor, minimum four (4) years of full time college or university teaching at the rank of associate professor or equivalent; evidence of significant recognition by the national or international community of scholars active in the same field.
Desirable Qualifications: Served with distinction in a public role in a university, government agency, non-governmental organization, or international organization.
Pay Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
