NCAER is India's oldest and largest independent, economic research institute. Established in 1956 and governed by an independent Governing Body, NCAER's goal is high-quality applied economic research that is relevant and has impact. NCAER undertakes commissioned research for governments, industry and, increasingly, its own independent, grant-funded research. NCAER is among a few think-tanks globally that has strong data collection capacities focusing on surveys at the national and local level. NCAER recently started a long-term partnership with the global leader in survey research, the University of Michigan's Survey Research Center.
We seek energized, curious, self-starting professionals excited by the intellectual, political, and implementation challenges of effective public policy-making.
NCAER research staff have unparalleled opportunities to work on critical economic and social policy problems in Indian and South Asia using public and NCAER's unique data sets; to inform and influence policymaking at the highest levels of government; publish in professional referred journals; and have top-level access to professional conferences and the media.
Senior Fellows provide intellectual leadership and mentoring, manage commissioned research projects and independent research programs and generally have at least six to eight years of post-PhD work experience, a strong record in research, publications, teaching, or project management.
Fellows are usually mid-career researchers with proven skills in applied economic research, usually with a PhD, at least five years of post-PhD research experience, and the clear potential to become thematic leaders and Senior Fellows.
Associate Fellows have usually completed or are close to completing PhDs with specialization in one or more areas mentioned above. Exceptional MAs may be considered.
All applicants must possess strong empirical skills and the ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally with technical and non-technical audiences. PhDs and Masters in Demography, Statistics, Survey Research, Sociology and other related social sciences with strong quantitative experience or demonstrated potential are welcome to apply. Candidates with world-class MPA or MBAs and a strong interest in public policy may apply if they meet other relevant criteria.
Appointments are on renewable, 3-year contracts. Shorter-term arrangements as consultants will also be considered.
